Season Update

Your scheduled practice will be the only practice session you can attend at our arena. However, we have coordinated with Cinnamon Creek Ranch to allow for extra practice times at their facility in Alliance. They normally charge $10 for lane rental, however as our premier sponsor they have agreed to allow Argyle Archers to shoot for free provided there is space.  So once we begin the season, we will provide them with a roster to verify that you are an Argyle archer, and then you will need to provide a target and call to ensure they have space.  We are coordinating to have targets available if you do not have your own.

We may also be able to occasionally post additional times when our arena will be available for either practice or lessons. We have more details to work through with instructor availability before we can officially make an announcement.

We introduced scoring the week of 11/09-11/2020 per NASP COVID Scoring Rules:

Please remind your archers about these common errors: 

1)  please don't touch your own scorecard/clipboard;

2)  each arrow is scored on its own horizontal row;

3)  verify score and have partner put a check in the block before pulling arrows.

Scored Shooting - Avoiding Cross-Contamination:

1 - Each archer should have a scorecard on their own scoreboard/clipboard.

2 - The archer from the adjacent lane, archer #2, will record Archer #1's arrows, lay Archer #1's scoreboard/card on the top of #1's target, and then  Archer #1 will review the marked scores for accuracy.

3 - The approval box of each arrow line, which is normally checked by Archer #1, should be checked by Archer #2 after Archer #1 agrees with the score.

4 - To avoid handling each other's cards, they should be unsigned and collected by a gloved official or handed in by the archer who handled the card. 

You should have received an email on Tuesday, Oct 20, for an invitation to our TeamSnap notification service.  Follow instructions in that invitation to download the app and update your profile so that we can push notifications to you. You can elect to receive via email or text or both, you can add contact information for more than one parent to keep everyone informed. We used the contact information you registered with to initiate the invitation. If you are returning, you still need to update your profile again this year as all data was cleared from last year's team.

We will participate in a Virtual NASP Tournament during normal practice session for all Argyle archers during the week of Dec 16.  This is a chance to register and compete at an official NASP event.  A $5 donation is the entry fee.  Please make check payable to AYSA Archery. We will be donating half the proceeds to St. Jude's Hospital and the other half to Sadie's Sleigh here in our community. (Sadiekellerfoundation.org)

Also congratulations to the Wednesday at 5pm time slot for donating the most to our food drive. We will be hosting a pizza party for the Wednesday 5pm class on Dec 2 after an abbreviated practice session.

We will resume normal practices on Monday, November 30, 2020. 

As always, PLEASE BE CHECKED IN AND READY TO SHOOT AT YOUR PRACTICE TIME, NOT ARRIVING on the hour.  We will be following a very strict timeline that will enable us to complete a practice followed by a sanitizing of the arena. Please be prompt so you don't run the risk of missing your only opportunity to practice for the week at the arena.

Weekend lessons and practices seem to be in high demand. We are strictly utilizing SignUpGenius as our platform to enroll in these activities. Actual times and capacity will change from weekend to weekend, but once announced, please visit SignUpGenius.com.  Using the search function, search for sign-ups from the email address jmharbison1@gmail.com.  You will see three sign-ups: Coaching, Private Lessons and Weekend Practice. Select "Private Lessons" or "Weekend Practice" as appropriate and enroll your archer by selecting the desired session and entering the archer's name, a contact phone number and submit. One adult must remain with archer throughout the lesson and COVID protocols will be followed. I do want to remind anyone who signs up, that if needing to cancel, please do so in a timely manner to open up the slot to others, and/or inform the instructor in the case of a lesson.

If you want to go, please call first to ensure there is space and not another event occurring, bring your own paper target, and unless you're over 16, plan on an adult remaining with you.  We have coordinated to have a limited number of targets available if you do not have your own, but please reuse it, if it still has some life left to it when your done. Thank you to all that attended the parent meeting, it was nice to see the familiar faces and meet the new ones.  Our season will commence on October 4th for all new archers only (new to NASP, even if you attended a summer camp session) and October 11th for our returning archers.

Web Apps

We will again utilize our website here along with SignUpGenius, TeamSnap, and NASPSchools.org.  Check out our "Helpful Apps" tab for more information about these apps. ArgyleYouthSports.com is primarily our registration site.  Be on the lookout for a new TeamSnap "request to join" as we're deleting the current team to clean out old traffic. 

Teams

We will have teams representing High School, Middle School, Hilltop and West. Note that we will not have an Intermediate School team, but all 5th graders will be either assigned to the Hilltop or the West team, according to elementary school zoning. This is the only way we can form elementary teams and be in compliance with NASP.

Practices

The practice session your archer is assigned to as their Primary is on the "Practice Schedule" tab. You will also see their information listed. Please verify school and shirt size that we have listed and only notify us if there is a discrepancy. Please do not reply if all is correct. Also, please note that 5th graders that still have AIS listed need to be corrected to either Hilltop or West and your assistance is appreciated.

Practices will start on time otherwise we jeopardize the next session's start time, so please be respectful of all parties. 

We want archers to have as much range time as feasible and so we will offer up extra lane time via SignUpGenius outside of your Primary practice session. There should be 8-10 extra shooting slots available per practice session and you will be asked to reserve them via SignUpGenius. If you reserve it, please utilize it or cancel in time for someone else to take advantage of it. Also please don't show up without a lane reserved and risk being turned away.

If we can offer additional bonus sessions on the weekends, those too will be in SignUpGenius.

Spectators are allowed to observe, just ask to keep the rambunctious siblings to a minimum.

New Archers

If you are new to NASP, including those that attended camp this summer, this first week of October 4th is for you. We will be getting you familiar with the arena, safety protocols and start shooting - much like the summer camps. 

If you are regularly scheduled for the season to attend a 5:30 session, we want you to come Monday, Tuesday AND Wednesday at 5:30 for this first week only.

If you are regularly scheduled for the season to attend a 6:30 session, we want you to come Monday, Tuesday AND Wednesday at 6:30 for this first week only.

If you are regularly scheduled for the season to attend a 7:30 session, we want you to come Monday, Tuesday AND Wednesday at 7:30 for this first week only.

We understand this may not be possible due to conflicts with other activities. However the more you can attend, the smoother the transition into the regular season will be for your archer. If you need to attend a different session than what you are scheduled for this week, make that request with Coach Jeff as sessions are pretty full.

Clean Up Day

Coach Wittmis will be leading an Arena Clean Up this Saturday, Sept 18th from 9:00-11:00. Please come out if you can. 

Equipment

If you registered to rent equipment from us for the season, we will evaluate your archer and issue the correct equipment on the first night of the season. There will be a Check Out sheet for a parent to sign, however, the equipment will remain in the arena for the first couple of weeks until we ensure the archer can demonstrate safe usage.

Tournaments 

We will be attending several tournaments over the season. All of these will be within the DFW Metroplex. The cost is separate from registration but usually about $10-$20 each. They are voluntary and shooting times will vary. If you are involved in other activities and can not shoot with the team, we can make arrangements in most cases for another time that is more convenient. The tournaments that we'll attend will be listed on our "Tournaments" tab.

3D

Coach Wintermute will be evaluating new middle and high school archers for his 3D team that will start after a few weeks of Bullseye shooting. 3D is a separate fee and practices on Thursdays, with an extra session on most Saturdays. Please see our "3D" tab for more information and updates. 

Concessions, donations, volunteers

We will run a concession stand out of the office during the season and during our home tournament. Donations of cases of soft drinks, exercise drinks and waters along with snack size cookies and chips, etc. will be accepted as items for sale in the concessions.

Coaching isn't the only way to volunteer but always needed. Even if not a certified BAI, you can help as a Safety Monitor with very little commitment. Please step forward if interested in any way, we won't say no! We are 100% volunteers.

Cupid's Challenge 

We host this fund raiser tournament in our arena and rely on a committee and working groups for a successful event. More information to follow.

Wrapping up the Season

The State Tournament in Belton, TX is our goal throughout the season. Hitting as many of the smaller, local tournaments provides a great lead up to this much larger event.  If we qualify teams here, we will be invited to Nationals, (typically in Salt Lake City) and again qualifying there we earn an invitation to the Open (formerly World's) which is also a travelling event, to places like Louisville, KY, Orlando, FL or Myrtle Beach, SC. (Fees are extra and travel is your responsibility.)

And finally an Awards Banquet. We've had plans since the beginning of the Black Plague of COVID and hope to realize those efforts at the end of this season.
